Finance and related teams at Navitaire can now navigate, search for and edit invoices, contracts, and related items more intuitively.
OVERVIEW
NCI (Navitaire Customer Invoicing) is an updated and redesigned web application that allows Finance, Customer Accounts, and other teams to create and manage all the complexities customer contracts and invoicing.
An overhaul of the original NCI is needed because the user work flows, navigation and over all usability is becoming unnecessarily complex and outdated.

DISCOVERING
THE USER'S
PAIN POINTS
To start the project off, my PM and I did walk-throughs of each module and work flow with the appropriate users in order for us to understand their context, pain points, and needs.
While each module had its own unique pain points, I identified some major pain points prevalent throughout the application and establish some solutions for the framework of the application:
Pain Points
-
Navigation is overly complex
-
Some components serve multiple purposes--making their interaction confusing
-
Vague labeling
Solutions
-
Revamp the information architecture
-
Simplify navigation
-
A clear purpose for each
-
screen and component
-
Persistent labeling
-
-
Consistent patterns within workflows

GETTING INTO
THE DETAILS
Collaboration is key
Before I began designing each module, my PM would start on the workflows, review them with me, and then make adjustments as needed.
This helped the team to see that a UX designer cares about how the application works--and not just looks.
